The New Millennium Begins in 2001!

The new millennium begins 2001 and NOT 2000.  A century (100 years) begins in a year with a 1.  For example, the past century was from 1901-2000.

If we said it was from 1900-2000, then that would be 101 years!  If we said the century was 1900-1999, then that would mean that the first century was from 0-99.  That cannot be correct, because there was never a year 0.  Therefore, centuries go from xxx1-xxx0 (i.e.; 1901-2000).

The same thing goes for millennia (plural for millennium).  All millennia begin in a year that ends in 1.  The past millennium was from 1001-2000.  The new millennium is from 2001-3000.  The first millennium was 1-1000.
